State Boards of Nursing

Be aware that 4 states have separate Boards of Nursing for registered nurses and licensed practical/vocational nurses: California, Georgia, Louisiana, and West Virginia

The Nurse Licensure Compact allows a nurse to have a license in his or her state of residence and practice in other states under a mutual recognition model. There are currently 24 states who have compact agreements. To see if your state has a compact agreement visit the Nurse Licensure Compact Administrators
